An Autumn Reminder

On my way home the grass in the field bent in unison under the wind and made wavy patterns on both sides of the path.  And for the first time in a while, I felt the wind pushing me instead of pulling.  It's always a little more comforting to be nudged than to be tugged upon.  I realized that until that moment, for the longest time, I felt as if i was being dragged somewhere whether I wanted to end up there or not.  But suddenly I felt the gentle push from behind -more like friendly encouragement or support.

It felt strange but somehow familiar.

Though the air is different here, I recognized a particular scent: a tinge of death, over-powered by the promise of new life and there, just barely noticeable...  It was so good that I took a little pause right there on the path and watched the fields dance.  I was alone though it wasn't that late.  I turned into the wind to welcome it upon my face and that's when I saw you standing behind me.

I felt my limbs grow lighter though I certainly wasn't high; it had been at least two long years since we'd last said goodbye.

I just smiled and you smiled back at me.  I thought to speak but didn't want to interrupt the rustling of the trees.

We just enjoyed the moment looking into each other's eyes.  I sensed you hadn't returned to stay but it was still such a nice surprise.

You were, as always, stunning in the crisp and breezy air -that simple smile and gleaming look, with your legs and arms all bare.

I watched some leaves scatter past and pretended they were thousand dollar bills.  But I didn't care to see them go, it was the thought of your departure that gave me chills.

But there was something there behind your look and although we didn't speak, I knew for certain this was by no means the last time we would meet.

I waved and smiled and you beamed right back, then turned and walked away, leaving me with the courage that I'd lacked and hope for a brand new day.

Once in a way

It isn’t hunting season but there is no one left to tell us not to take the kill. While your guitar gently wept, my violin had awoken devils the likes of Belial and Sammael. I hold them in my hands though I’ve released my grip on the world to procure such magic. Earth is rolling downhill without Atlas to hold her up… slowly now but give it time… Hell is breaking loose. The waves no longer pound the shoreline but keep your ears high, young Fiver: there’s a fox in the comb. And fair Varona shall become no sleep tonight; but not by any doings of the houses of Montague or Capulet but of something more terrifying than you could ever in your worst nightmares have imagined. The Zeitgeist is dead and God will follow suit and soon there will be nothing left but an unfriendly wind blowing through the last fields of barley and rye. Once in a way, I knew this place as did we all. It wasn’t my entire fault but I shall take the blame, for what does it matter now? Weg. The gallows hang too high and the fair-weather crowd of on-lookers can no longer relish in the expressions of fear and anguish on the faces of the fallen as the rope reaches the end of its slack. Now only the sound of snapping bones can arouse any rush from the peasantry of this class we have selfishly created by digging and cutting until there was nothing left. There is nothing left.

My Theologies

I’ve felt obliged as of late to clarify my own theological beliefs to myself. I know what it is that I believe and what I it is that I do not but what I’ve been seeking to understand is why I posses the beliefs I do. These are (only) a few observations I have made:

• If god did not give man freewill, what would be the point to creating him at all?
When a game designer invents a new RPG, he creates a world just as god had. He creates the rules and the materials available; he sets the limitations and punishments; he creates a new world where people plug themselves in online and basically live an alternate life just like the lives people are living right now in the world created for them by god. But why would that man create a world and all the characters and then control everything every one of the characters did? There would be no point to it. It would be boring and a lot of work for nothing. I do not believe that god created us in such a way. And if he had, what does that say about god? When a man robs a bank or rapes someone, did he do this because god controlled it? I think not. I think god has no hand in the action and decisions of man. It only makes sense. I can understand to some degree, the desire to make something that may require hard work and may not seem so marvelous to the creator for the benefit of a third party or an audience. A good example of this is a motion picture. In the instance of Star Wars or many of Spielberg’s films, the film was written, produced and directed by the same single human being. They knew the end of the story before it was written, they controled the fates and every action of the characters and they saw all the nitty-gritty behind the scenes of the film not intended for the audience. For them, the only benefit is the effect of the movie on an audience. They have created a work of art for others to enjoy. The Earth is a beautiful work of art and man is a beautiful creature capable of many beautiful things (understood but irrelevant, that he is also capable of wicked, ugly things). But if this was meant to be so, who is the audience? Certainly not mankind. Just as the characters in the movie are not the audience of the movie. They are simply the characters. They know not that their existence is the futile creation of an artist. The audience must be a third party of equal value of the creator. This would mean that god created the world as a work of art to appeal to something else unworldly. This does not fit into typical religious cannon (though oddly enough it does fit the bill for a select few Native American religious beliefs that I know of, though I am no expert). The only other unearthly figure that appears in various religions often enough to be considered a norm would be the devil or the representation of evil –the figure in opposition of god. Did god create the world and mankind as a work of art so that the devil could marvel it or attempt to appreciate it? I think not. For what other motive could there be to do such a thing? For these reason I must believe that man has freewill to do whatsoever he pleases despite what god wishes.
• What else could there be?
Most religious beliefs focus on the existence of an afterlife –something more beautiful than the present. They strive to achieve this life which is often depicted as a reward for only a select few. For me, the belief of a world better than this beautiful world which surrounds us is a selfish and ignorant belief. Clearly man isn’t happy enough with what he already has. He is afraid of life and he cannot handle the hardships that must come with the beauty. He seeks a Utopian world in which there would be no such hardships. Though it is my belief that it is because of those hardships that the beautiful can appear as so. Everything wonderful will eventually lose its flair. Everything is in recession. Everything is fleeting. Man is dying from the moment he is conceived. Thus is the way of life. Nothing good can last forever. The idea of a place where everything is good for all eternity goes against all reason. Life needs equilibrium to give things meaning. Because we have ugliness, we can have/understand/appreciate beauty; because we have coldness, we can have/understand/appreciate warmth; because we have darkness, we can have/understand/appreciate light; because we have god, we must have the devil. There can never be one without the other. Whatever afterlife there is, it could not exclude one half of these things because they are necessary for the existence of the other.
• What are we waiting for?
As some religions foretell, there will come a time when all of mankind will be stopped in its tracks and forced to participate in the will of god as he ends its time on earth. Essentially, every human being on earth will simultaneously (whether you choose to literally interpret Revelations or not, the concept is the same, regardless of the exact time frame, in many religions) die, old and young, good and evil. And they will be assorted into the proper categories based on their actions in life. And what of the infants? Why are they lucky enough to not even have been tempted with sin? And if these people are to be sorted in the same manner as the rest of everyone else who had earlier died of natural causes (that is, not collected as part of a whole by god as he ended man’s reign on earth), then why, the question must be asked, are these people “special”. For what reason will god decide that the time is right to perform such a task? And how could this be judged as fair? What would become of those that would have repented their sins the following day had god just granted them another twenty-four hours? He could not know if they would have or not because he does not control their thoughts as man most definitely has freewill. Metaphorically, man’s time on earth could be compared to a game show such as Press Your Luck or Wheel of Fortune. As both names suggest, it is only a matter or luck that this act of god would benefit any one person in particular. The participants of the game are men and the duration of the stopping process is the will of god. No matter when he chooses to carry out this last act of judgment on the human race, there will be winners and losers. And many of these people we should understand to not be winners or losers at all. Does the fact that one loses on Press Your Luck simply because he pressed a button make him a failure? Indeed not; it makes him unlucky, for the very same button-press made another “a winner”. This insensible idea of an ending point controlled by anything other than the interactions of human beings themselves does not hold much water in my beliefs.
• What becomes of the world after man?
Man was the last thing created. All other things were created for the pleasure and benefit of man so that he would have them when he arrived. Man needs the nourishment of the earth and the sun. He needs equilibrium in all things (e.g. day/night). All things were created for man. Without men on the earth, the earth no longer serves a purpose. What would become of it? Would it be disregarded? The flora left to wither away and the fauna to go extinct without the assistance of god (and in some instances man)… And what would become of the creations of man? The physical imprint man has made on his home planet… Would it be left as a legacy or removed? And why is that question even relevant? And what of the not so tangible creations of man? Of math? Of time? These are not natural concepts and do not actually exist. They were merely the creations of man to help them make sense of the world around him. Would they also disappear along with mankind? What would it be like in a world without math or time? Could man’s brain function without them? I think not, for he invented them out of necessity in the first place. But these were not creations of god. Would this mean that they would then not exist in his afterlife? Would man be allowed to bring his creations with him to the afterlife? This is an odd question yet one cannot deny it is pertinent. Or would the world be recycled in some way? Would god simply decide to start “round two” –like the game designer will most definitely at some point in the future, create a new version of the same RPG. And if this is the case, who’s to say that mankind is indeed “round one”? It is entirely possible that mankind is already the recycled creation of a former man –perhaps a less perfect man.
• Why are the beliefs of man so similar and yet so different?
And what does that indeed say about the beliefs of man? The fact that many civilizations around the world developed similar religious beliefs without having contacted or consulted one another leads me to believe that man strives for reason. He needs clarification as to why he exists. He needs to believe in something more powerful than he and all that he knows. Yet the fact that all of these religious beliefs are not the same and in actuality, many are quite different, leads me to believe that there was no proof or factual foundation for any of them. I cannot see one as more correct than any other for to do so would be to say that god appeared to the people who developed such a belief and gave them the biased advantage of the truth from which to structure their beliefs and so left the others in the dust so to speak with their false beliefs. This is totally against the concept of god as the creator. No, the fact that everyone everywhere on the planet developed a religious belief in a supreme power(s) and yet none of them are in accordance leads me to believe that all of them are indeed false. They are only similar in that they seek to provide an answer. Yet none of them can prove that their answer is any more correct than the others’. This in itself offers more proof than that made available by any one particular religion.
• What is nothing?
The question cannot be answered. It is impossible for human beings to understand the concept of nothing. It is for this reason that the idea of the creation has held sway so long over scientific theory. To say that before the universe came into being there was nothing, is not something that man can wrap is head around –not something he can accept. Yet the fact must surely remain that before god came into existence, there was nothing. Everything must always have been started from nothing. As impossible as it is to understand (and I firmly believe that it is indeed impossible to understand and always will be impossible to understand), it is a truth I accept. Man’s largest fear is that of the unknown. In fact, almost every fear is derived from this single fear. One may possess a fear of snakes but this fear is brought about because he does not know if the snake will act in a displeasing way (as he knows it can). It was because of this fear of the unknown that man created his religious beliefs. He feared not understanding the purpose of his life and so created something to help him ease this fear. And it is the fear of the unknown that drives the fear of death. For death is the one thing, every human being can automatically understand is impossible to explore, and so our knowledge of it will never improve. Man may learn what brings about death and ways to preserve life but he could never experiment with death without dying. People have died and come back to life countless times –it occurs on a daily basis in hospitals all over the world. But this is not the same. They are at the time, unconscious and their body has ceased the functions capable of bringing them back to life, but nevertheless it is like they are asleep and without dreams –a feeling we all know but cannot understand. One awakes without any knowledge of what has happened or how much time has elapsed. He was essentially dead to the world and unable to describe what had occurred in his state of unconscious. Life is only the conscious. The unconscious is not life but rather, life distorted to a point impossible to understand. For these reasons, man cannot, and will not ever know what will become of him after his death. And because this concept is so easy for him to understand, it is very easy for him to fear. For man fears most, that which is the most obviously unknown. And it because of this intense fear of death/the unknown that man has created the idea of the afterlife to help him cope with his conscious life. The idea of simply living another life after the familiar one has ended is only a convenience created to oppose the fear of death –to create equilibrium for which it is necessary for man to live. It is my belief that what comes after death is nothing –just as is feared. In that sense it is clear, for man did originally have a fear of death until he created the concept of an afterlife and he would not have had this fear if he did not already have the notion that there was indeed nothing after death. Man has always understood this but yet has always chose to oppress this.

The Hunter and the Hermit

I am a saboteur of my own goals
I enjoy the hunt more than the meal
I play stupid games when I should not
I forget what is and isn't real

I've been dawdling far too long
One day the tortoise will take his prize
Then I'll have to reinvent myself
And shed this heavy guise

I am a borrower of stones and books
And I misplace all that I own
I cannot keep my thoughts in line
The seeds were scattered when they were sewn

I've woken up wishing I had not
And felt the breath of God upon my face
Tomorrow doesn't quite exist for us
Yet we welcome it with embrace

Florianturm

Wir waren dann die Könige
Hoch über alles andere in der Welt
Es war echt ganz so perfekt
Ein neue Beziehung hat entwickelt
Deine Ohrringe haben geklackt
Und sie klangen wie ein Lied
Und meiner Meinung nach
Gab es keinen Unterschied
Weit unter uns am Boden
Die winzigen Menschen spielten
Noch waren wir allein
Irgendwie zusammenhielten
Ich hätte da bleiben können
Für den Rest der Ewigkeit
Solange du wärst bei mir
Um zu teilen die Vollkommenheit

Dying (I)

I felt the Earth rise up to wake me as she did every so often; bringing me back to the world I had left behind. I stared out across the field and from somewhere off to the side a rabbit darted across the ground. Its feet trampled the soft clover quickly and at equal intervals at it flung itself far from whatever had startled it. As I watched its tiny brown body bounce through the green I could suddenly feel the creature’s emotions. Despite my stationary position, I suddenly felt the need to stop. The rabbit gracefully ended its dash on a dime; going from full speed to static rest. I felt a quick relief flash through the muscles in my back. I stared at the beast and though it was a hundred meters away I could hear its heart beating rapidly against the inside of its chest. It yearned for breath and was fighting the feeling of relaxation for cautiousness had to come first. It sat up on its haunches and surveyed the area; it was void of any other activity save for this wild connection that drew me to the animal and seemed to hover in the air like some intangible umbilical. He hopped off rather content and halted to smell a small group of daffodils and I suddenly realized there was another rabbit in the field. This oversight surprised me for I was sure that the area was empty. My eyes now darted back and forth over the short clover; searching for anything else I may have missed in my initial scan which had since proven to be false. I saw another rabbit a little farther off. Then another closer to where the first had stopped. Then another. And another. There were no less than six rabbits in the field, all of them seeming to spring from Mother Earth herself. I knew this would not last. The ground would swell as it always did and I would be taken higher into the air to breathe the thin fumes that always made me feel the most at ease. And then just as suddenly as it had happened, it would end. I would sink back down with the Earth and pass the rabbits, pass the clover, pass the elemental escape coursing through me and I would one again feel the weight of my self as I was spun towards the center of the Earth by some force I vaguely understood but could not comprehend. The sky had grown considerable darker and I suddenly realized that much more time had passed than I had anticipated. My ears faintly recognized the chirping of birds in the distance. This was unheard of to me now and my mind began to run in several directions. I had never seen so much activity in these times that my mother called me to her. Usually it was only to show me something. Something specifically intended for me to take away, though I hardly ever figured it out until some later point in my life. But as I watched the rabbits chase each other across the green and the wind swept my hair to one side, I couldn’t tell what I was thinking. So many times after these trips ended, I regretted that they were so short-lived and so many nights I dreamed of returning to my mother to learn from her and have her nurture me in a way that I can only describe as willingly-intended. For so long I had thought that if I could somehow escape to this place that I would be happier with whatever was to come than the same dab certainty that plagued my everyday life. But now that I was suddenly faced with the potential poser of actually not returning as I always had, I was entirely unsure of what I wanted to think. All I ever wanted might have just been laid before my feet but I could not accept it guiltlessly because I felt the pang to return at least once more and square up a few unfinished ends I would be leaving behind. In this stance, I knew I was not fully committed to the epitome that welcomed me with its green clover and happy rabbits. A bit of the Earth crumbled under my right foot snapping me out of a stupor. A hole had opened up and inside it was dark and I could sense a strong feeling of despair and distress rise out of it. It was to this feeling that I always returned. No, I decided. I did not want to return this time. The ground rose up in a giant mound centered around where I stood. It was quite dark now; overhead was so deep a shade of blue that only the tops of the trees could be seen clearly where they kissed the sky. I felt the breeze rush through my hair as I ascended into the crisp night air. I would not be returning today. I looked around and a smile gripped my face uncontrollably. Tonight. I would not be returning tonight. It was the first time I had visited her in this hour and she was still as beautiful as I could ever hope. I was alone in the sky now; an endless vessel of clean autumn air. I had left the rabbits far behind in both body and mind and slowly it seemed to me that I should also include soul into that description. The clouds around me melted; bright silver that glowed like a wildfire against the black sky. The thin wisps of silver tongues played about on my skin and I reached out for them. They willingly obliged; accepting me with the finest greetings that anyone could hope for. I could feel her golden eyes on me though I could not find her just yet. From up this high, I could usually spot her off in the mountains or in a stream twisting below. But the darkness of night concealed her from me this time and I felt an entirely new exhilaration as I breathed in the silver smoke. I was illuminated by the bright light, known not only to her but the rest of the world. Yet I was blind and none the wiser of the events that took place than I had ever been. A comfortably icy sensation ran through my veins quenching my thirst. I felt the Earth upon me as every man ever has since the moment of his conception. Suddenly it became clear to me what I was to do. Without anything else for to hinder my attention, it was quite evident, the feeling of bondage to this world from the Earth. She pulled me down and I pulled her up; I knew this. But she also pushed me up, something I had always felt but never quite understood. As I danced through the silver clouds deep in the empty sea of icy sky I began to wonder what would become of me if I would push her back. I felt her golden eyes upon once more and I could feel her approval rushing through me. Like a new bride offering herself to her lover, I felt the passion of the Earth rush through my body and I knew that we were all but one. I looked below me, though I knew I would find nothing. The smoke curled itself around my legs and as I pulled a particularly bright cloud towards me, I took in a deep breath. I brought the silver mist to my face and buried it in the light. From within, I could see the white stars that painted the night sky and they flirted with me, beckoning me to be more affectionate. But this play was all in their nature, as I well understood. I smiled at them and they giggled like girls on a playground. I blew out the cold air I held in my lungs, scattering the cloud outwards in a stream of blinking white lights and silvery haze. It was as satisfied as I had ever felt and a sense of renewed vigor filled my spirit as I closed my eyes and attempted to save the moment forever. Without reopening them, I stretched downwards with the full intention of my body, mind and soul. I was unsure how I knew it but this was the appropriate time for my emancipation. I pushed downwards using what energy I could muster and I found it rather effortless to raise myself up by pushing down upon the Earth. I felt the cold water of the brook that ran alongside the clover. I felt the spindly twigs that jutted upwards from the very tops of the elders. I felt the incongruent changes in the surface where the hills met the plains and the harder, course soil of the mountain peaks. I felt the wheat that swayed from side to side in the swirling breeze. I felt the Earth for only a few moments longer, playing at my underside as I rose up higher and higher still. Then it had sunk away, too far out of grasp. I was alone in the sky. The deep, empty, icy sky. Above me the tiny stars twinkled at me welcoming me, beckoning me to come closer and be more ambitious. I smiled at them, we both knew that it was only flirting and nothing would come of it. I lay back and closed my eyes concentrating on nothing at first but then I suddenly found myself thinking of the rabbits and the clover field below. My mind skipped like a record that had been bumped and I felt that much time had passed unnoticed in the space of a heartbeat. I had a curious urge to place me hand to my breast and confirmed that there was no heartbeat resonating from within my chest. I opened my eyes and was greeted by the morning sunrise. I was lying in the field of clover near the quite little brook. The rabbits were already up and moving about drinking the dew off of the greens. I felt them pull me with the intangible umbilical that I had felt the day before. I rose to my feet and stared out at the world. I no longer felt the need to do anything. No desire to breath, eat or sleep. I was free in not only body and mind but also in soul. I was here for good and I was happy with this outcome. It was what I had always wanted. The Earth pushed me up playfully and I kindly pushed her back. Everything was fine. Very fine.

The Rooftop Man

I saw a man up on the roof
A thousand miles away
He may have served some purpose there
But for what I couldn’t say

A welcome breeze upon my face
Awakes me from my daze
I’d lost my self in my own mind
A never-ending maze

I know he keeps his tabs on me
A tarnished dossier
All marked up with blood and ink
Of my earlier days

Sometimes I feel I’m weightless
Like a Novikoff ballet
But in the forest of my dreams
The rooftop man holds sway

To the darkest corners of the world
I’ve traveled just to prey
Between my sixth sense and ignorance
Love couldn’t last a day

Once I tried to undo time
But became lost in this dismay
He sheltered me then turned me out
All without delay

Thus is how I came to be
A life in disarray
Without a thing to feel or think
Besides this vile haze

I owe nothing to anyone
Doch, I feel I must rephrase
But I will not speak it in this house
For he does not like clichés

To find an egress in this place
Becomes harder every day
This brutal prison of time and space
An eternal judgment day

Eventually he’ll find me
And the dream will fall away
If I cannot look him in the eye
There’ll sure be hell to pay

My Muse

I feel her all around me
Though I lost her long ago
She tells me what to do and say
She tells me where to go
And yet I do still know her
And she's not what I recall
She's grown and changed like all the rest
Heavy-laden with new gall
But as I did once know her
Simple and less vain
The way she looked that winter's eve
She forever will remain
For she is so much more to me
Than she could ever understand
I would not be myself today
Without her helping hand
For once she was the purest of souls
And thus is how I keep her
That simple friend I knew so well
Forever how I'll see her
And though I dare not speak her name
It feels so good upon my lips
I've been yearning for so long
Since she denied me just one kiss
Her bright-red aura fills me
To my troubles she doth tend
She's the only love I'll ever have
My beginning and my end

The End of it all started it all...

Once, I noticed the sun wasn't perfectly round as I had always assumed. I stared at it a little too long and noticed that it wavered around the edges, not unlike how the stars seem to blink at night if you focus on any one of them in particular. I was captivated. I forced myself to look again but it hurt. I quickly understood that what I was doing wasn't just something that my mother had warned me never to do for my own well being. I'd done countless other things she would never approve of anyway. But this was so much different. This, I knew deep in my soul, was wrong.
I had done evil and I dealt with my conscience every time I had; that sick and twisted feeling, I knew oh-so-well from a life a misery and disdain. But this was far worse than any self-ridiculing my conscience had put me through. This hurt. Nature was telling me I shouldn't be doing this. I could feel the burn linger in my eyes as purple and green splotches hammered themselves into what seemed my very soul. I collected my thoughts while I waited for them to disappear.
Finally I resolved to outlast nature. I prepared myself for the dive into whatever world would result from what I was about to do…what I was compelled to do. I lifted my face towards the sky, my eyes closed, and felt the warmth of the sun radiate through my flesh.
I steeled myself, took a breath and opened my eyes. There it was, in all of its infinite glory, the life source of the Earth, the harbinger of my demise, the cradle of my new life. I could not help from blinking –this I did rapidly as I attempted to fight nature. After a few seconds, I had succeeded in shattering my survival instincts and I was left in control of my body. I knew it was then that whatever it was that gives life meaning had left me. I had broken the rules and I had been chastised by isolation. I was now alone. I forced my eyes open wider as they gradually adjusted to the fiery white light that seemed to penetrate my body and soul. It was magnificent…
And then suddenly it was as dark as night and I knew the sun was dead. I stood, immobilized staring at the sun. Its frail and shattered form hung there, dark and muted, high in the afternoon sky. Its imperfections were now clearly visible to my well-trained eyes. It was sickening but I couldn’t turn away. I was frozen by fear of what would be brought about. For eight minutes I stood fixated with my neck pulled back and my eyes agape staring at the broken star above me. I felt the Earth die. It was a wicked and hideous feeling that washed over me so fast that I could not at first comprehend what had happened.
My heart grew cold –cold like the sun.
And my spirit grew dark –dark like the day.

MYK

I'll dig until I find myself

Under layers of deceit

And then build upon it all again

This pattern, I'll repeat

My identity is messy

It'll stick to you like glue

In a couple months, you might be me

And I'll be someone new

For I am a Phoenician

And I'll borrow things from you

And mix and match them with the rest

To make a motley stew

And though it may be frowned upon

I am nothing less than proud

After all, it is not I

That wears your dismal shroud

Incubus

I would chauffeur you straight into Hell
If you were to give me the chance
With Beelzebub we would feast
And with Asmodeus we’d dance

My words are vile poison
My mind: alluring and well-fed
I know exactly what to say
Without need to pull your leg

My bitter-sweet serenade
Was taught to me by Death
Once I’ve brought you to Gehenna
You’ll sell me your last breath

Though you’ll never really know me
You know what I’ve brought about
Abaddon, Deception
Pain, agony and drought

You will never triumph over me
You’ll fall time and time again
Until you stare into the faces
Of the four horsemen

I will drown you in the Acheron
To demonstrate my bane
And then raise you from the icy depths
To show you his domain

And then you’ll see through lifeless eyes
Just what has come to thee
An eternity of suffering
Because you trusted me

Headlong

The tide came in on winter's eve

And my court was washed away

Alone and homeless in the sand

To Neptune I did pray

Why have you forsaken me

And stolen what I've made

I am but your humble servant

And my debts have long been paid

The sea, it did speak back to me

And addressed my one lament

Though wronged him I had not

My interests were ill-spent

For he was my devout guardian

And provided for my needs

But for all the purposes that it serve

To raise one's court upon the sea!

For Neptune washed away my house

And brought to my attention

A fatal flaw in how I lived

My lack of apprehension

Because I was placed upon this earth

For some specific reason

And to not fulfill this for my god

Would be an act of treason

Thus I vowed to never again

Place myself into harm's way

And satisfied that I his vessel

Neptune let me live my days

Stacked

The catacombs are leaking
And death is spilling out
The boney hands of Scipio
Have stolen all my clout

The skeletons have long been stacked
One atop the next
With no regard to which is which
The servant or the Rex

This is the legacy of human life
Reduced to stone and mortar
Our souls are trapped between the bricks
That seal our final quarter
