My Muse

I feel her all around me
Though I lost her long ago
She tells me what to do and say
She tells me where to go
And yet I do still know her
And she's not what I recall
She's grown and changed like all the rest
Heavy-laden with new gall
But as I did once know her
Simple and less vain
The way she looked that winter's eve
She forever will remain
For she is so much more to me
Than she could ever understand
I would not be myself today
Without her helping hand
For once she was the purest of souls
And thus is how I keep her
That simple friend I knew so well
Forever how I'll see her
And though I dare not speak her name
It feels so good upon my lips
I've been yearning for so long
Since she denied me just one kiss
Her bright-red aura fills me
To my troubles she doth tend
She's the only love I'll ever have
My beginning and my end

The End of it all started it all...

Once, I noticed the sun wasn't perfectly round as I had always assumed. I stared at it a little too long and noticed that it wavered around the edges, not unlike how the stars seem to blink at night if you focus on any one of them in particular. I was captivated. I forced myself to look again but it hurt. I quickly understood that what I was doing wasn't just something that my mother had warned me never to do for my own well being. I'd done countless other things she would never approve of anyway. But this was so much different. This, I knew deep in my soul, was wrong.
I had done evil and I dealt with my conscience every time I had; that sick and twisted feeling, I knew oh-so-well from a life a misery and disdain. But this was far worse than any self-ridiculing my conscience had put me through. This hurt. Nature was telling me I shouldn't be doing this. I could feel the burn linger in my eyes as purple and green splotches hammered themselves into what seemed my very soul. I collected my thoughts while I waited for them to disappear.
Finally I resolved to outlast nature. I prepared myself for the dive into whatever world would result from what I was about to do…what I was compelled to do. I lifted my face towards the sky, my eyes closed, and felt the warmth of the sun radiate through my flesh.
I steeled myself, took a breath and opened my eyes. There it was, in all of its infinite glory, the life source of the Earth, the harbinger of my demise, the cradle of my new life. I could not help from blinking –this I did rapidly as I attempted to fight nature. After a few seconds, I had succeeded in shattering my survival instincts and I was left in control of my body. I knew it was then that whatever it was that gives life meaning had left me. I had broken the rules and I had been chastised by isolation. I was now alone. I forced my eyes open wider as they gradually adjusted to the fiery white light that seemed to penetrate my body and soul. It was magnificent…
And then suddenly it was as dark as night and I knew the sun was dead. I stood, immobilized staring at the sun. Its frail and shattered form hung there, dark and muted, high in the afternoon sky. Its imperfections were now clearly visible to my well-trained eyes. It was sickening but I couldn’t turn away. I was frozen by fear of what would be brought about. For eight minutes I stood fixated with my neck pulled back and my eyes agape staring at the broken star above me. I felt the Earth die. It was a wicked and hideous feeling that washed over me so fast that I could not at first comprehend what had happened.
My heart grew cold –cold like the sun.
And my spirit grew dark –dark like the day.

MYK

I'll dig until I find myself

Under layers of deceit

And then build upon it all again

This pattern, I'll repeat

My identity is messy

It'll stick to you like glue

In a couple months, you might be me

And I'll be someone new

For I am a Phoenician

And I'll borrow things from you

And mix and match them with the rest

To make a motley stew

And though it may be frowned upon

I am nothing less than proud

After all, it is not I

That wears your dismal shroud

Incubus

I would chauffeur you straight into Hell
If you were to give me the chance
With Beelzebub we would feast
And with Asmodeus we’d dance

My words are vile poison
My mind: alluring and well-fed
I know exactly what to say
Without need to pull your leg

My bitter-sweet serenade
Was taught to me by Death
Once I’ve brought you to Gehenna
You’ll sell me your last breath

Though you’ll never really know me
You know what I’ve brought about
Abaddon, Deception
Pain, agony and drought

You will never triumph over me
You’ll fall time and time again
Until you stare into the faces
Of the four horsemen

I will drown you in the Acheron
To demonstrate my bane
And then raise you from the icy depths
To show you his domain

And then you’ll see through lifeless eyes
Just what has come to thee
An eternity of suffering
Because you trusted me

Headlong

The tide came in on winter's eve

And my court was washed away

Alone and homeless in the sand

To Neptune I did pray

Why have you forsaken me

And stolen what I've made

I am but your humble servant

And my debts have long been paid

The sea, it did speak back to me

And addressed my one lament

Though wronged him I had not

My interests were ill-spent

For he was my devout guardian

And provided for my needs

But for all the purposes that it serve

To raise one's court upon the sea!

For Neptune washed away my house

And brought to my attention

A fatal flaw in how I lived

My lack of apprehension

Because I was placed upon this earth

For some specific reason

And to not fulfill this for my god

Would be an act of treason

Thus I vowed to never again

Place myself into harm's way

And satisfied that I his vessel

Neptune let me live my days

Stacked

The catacombs are leaking
And death is spilling out
The boney hands of Scipio
Have stolen all my clout

The skeletons have long been stacked
One atop the next
With no regard to which is which
The servant or the Rex

This is the legacy of human life
Reduced to stone and mortar
Our souls are trapped between the bricks
That seal our final quarter
